from now on I recommend using gzdoom version 4.5.0 (released 2020)

4.5.0 fixed a lot of problems (like high CPU usage in the background)
4.5.0 also introduces a few quality of life improvements:

A) most importantly, 4.5.0 reverted back to the "old" (better)
renderer that was used in
version 2.4.0 (2017, before they changed a bunch of stuff for the worse)
This means that gzdoom now has the ability of having
the Bright, Colorful, Vivid and Sharp graphics
exactly like the DOS games looked originally (stock Zdoom looks and Prboom looks, Doom95, etc)

(if you want to see how default settings look, simply rename the INI file...
gzdoom will create a new INI config file the 1st time it runs...)

B) ability to change between Hardware and Software renderer on the fly
(without restarting...) very useful for choosing better looks for any maps

C) ability to go into Fullscreen mode without changing your
monitor's resolution (does not mess your desktop windows like before)

D) internal MIDI music mechanism (specially useful for Linux
since it doesn't depend on external MIDI being installed anymore,
at least that's the case when running Win version inside Wine...
also useful for selecting and testing different Soundfonts)

E) ability to use internal resolution of 320x200 or 640x400
for the game, regardless of window size being used
This means that you can have the game running in a big window
while preserving the original looks for atmosphere (recommended)
Useful, although the menu is confusing and needlessly convoluted
(again: this pack here comes pre-configured with all these things)

For certain mods, gzdoom 4.5.0 will not work.
For these, I recommend trying 2.4.0 first.
(for convenience, I will include it in this pack as well)

INSTRUCTIONS:
When gzdoom first runs, an INI text file is created in the folder
with your username on it (very dumb decision, requires manual labor for redistributing)
Either you rename the INI file I included (YourUserNameHere)
or you copy the contents from my text file to your text file.
Either way will work.
